Rob: Mr. Rankin is a good man and knows alot about theatre though I have never had the opportunity to meet him, in person. To follow through with his suggestion(s) is a good thing, too.
It is a complete and utter disgrace that this beautiful theatre was demolished and 38 years later it is a PARKING LOT! I hang my head in disgrace for the City of Youngstown in the State of Ohio!
Lost Memory: Thanks for the photos of the Robin, then and now as I see the marquee and vertical ROBINS sign are gone! Somehow I’m not surprised, but saddened none the less!
Good advice from Mr. Rankin and I hope to see this theatre, in person this summer! The above historical piece by Robin Lake is most fascinating to read. Thank you.
The Robins Theatre hopefully will be restored as it is connected with the Packard name and deserves to get some TLC. A trip this summer to Youngstown will include a trip to nearby Warren, now!
wolfgirl500: Funny that you would mention this theatre today as it also came up over lunch today with our Youngstown friends…great timing! I’ve gotten them interested in theatres so they have now acquired the incurable ‘bug’!
Chuck1231: Nice article about the organ and vintage b/w photo. I like the marquee then compared to now. Also, the figure skating photos on either side of the marquee.
It’s been a long since I posted here, but just wanted to invite anyone who has never attended one of their monthly organ recitals to do so as you won’t be disappointed in the recital or this theatre and the TLC is receives on a continual basis from the volunteer workers.
I can’t answer your theatre question concerning a Strand Theatre, but wolfgirl might have the answer. I’m sure she’ll tell us if she can. Cinematour is a great resource and comparative site, but without the message board it’s just not the same.
wolfgirl500: Your photo of the Paramount on the FR website, page 2 really shows off the exterior design, but the marquee framing is still there. I’ve been comparing your photo to the vintage postcard photo. The white terra cotta exterior is quite exquisite!
Perhaps I was wrong in thinking that theatre name was connected to Youngstown as CT only lists 5 Youngstown theatres and the Southern is not mentioned.
Nice to read that a theatre made way for……a new Burger King! If I lived in Youngstown, I wouldn’t patronize THAT Burger King…besides I prefer McDonalds!

Rob: Do you know this Nathaniel A. Riggle who contributed the Robins link?

Rob: Thanks for your informative CT post on the Robins. And btw, thanks for the email.

I’m not sure what, if any, the connection is between the Robins and the Packard names? Hopefully someone can post that information here. Thanks.
What can someone tell us about the W.D. Packard Music Hall? Glad to know that the hall exists, but the Robins needs to be restored!

I wonder if this theatre is still a multiplex as I’m sure it was built as a single screen theatre?

Wow, those are quite the lists. Thanks Ken.

Thanks.
After looking at the beautiful Paramount exterior facade design I only hope this theatre can be saved!

I found the theatre photos that you recently added to the FR website. Thanks.
The five are as follows: Newport, Palace, Paramount, Powers (Warner) and State. My source is ‘wolfgirl500’ who lives in Youngstown.
Anyone have some photos of this former art deco theatre?

Is there or was there a theatre called the Southern in Youngstown? It seems that I came upon that name in my vast theatre research.
