According to Google street view, Wall*e was playing in the above link. Don’t think that means it’s closed. The movie Date Night is the current showing according to several different sites.
Not related to this particular drive-in but maybe someone can research this better than I could, but there was a fire in the theater in the town of McCamey, TX on July 4th, 1935 that severely burned the theater, and burnt the theater owner H. P. Priddy. Story here:
Wow, went through McCamey a couple of times last year, never even looked for the screen. McCamey does has some nice ruins of oil refineries, or pumping stations all over town though. Explored a few of them.
If the Circus was on 67, what are these 2 drive-ins located on 385 North of town? May be a twin, but strange layout for one if it was….
1993 imagery shows the lot right where Dollar General and Wendy’s are at currently. NW corner of Ledo Rd. and Walnut St. A very strange rectangle lot layout.
4 miles South of town off Hwy 221 is this place. 1993 imagery shows it more defined (screen still looked like it was up, etc…) but this might be the Midway… 300 car size is about right.
Here in Texas we have a lot of communities named Midway, and usually more often than not is because it’s midway between 2 larger cities. Like Midland, TX is midway between El Paso and Fort Worth.
Drove by yesterday, and Intellectual Property (see March 26, 2007 photo) has moved out, and the old Varsity building is currently up for lease once again….
If the address is correct, it appears it’s gone for good….
Some of the letters from your marquee didn’t however…..
Yep, the Coca Cola logo on the luncheonette was used in the 50’s and 60’s….

Looks like it says Flint River Store. Makes sense, since the Flint River runs through town.

Here in Texas, it would be called FM2874. Just West of town. Just West of County Rd. 4510
Still barely visible in the shot.

Old aerials don’t show a drive in at that location, but maybe 3 blocks away on Park St. there’s an old decrepit drive in there. Is this the place?

Remove the ZIP code from the map link in the title, and it’ll work properly…
