Why was the Palace demolished in 1980? Besides “shortsighted progress” and plain ignorance.
Thank you, Mark. Does Peoria have an historic theatre without the Palace? Where does the Peoria Synphony perform?
Cute stories, Zephyrscribe. Is the theatre still standing and operating as a restored theatre or is it now a .. parking lot?
Interesting to read about the Surf Theatre in such detail by CT member, Joe Vogel. My blog will feature it in the near future.

I fear this theatre is doomed though will hold out hope. Keep us updated.
The film, Father Goose featured on the marquee was 1964. Grant was 60.
What is the current status?
What was the front facade above the marquee made of?
Pleased it has been restored.
What is the current status re: the State Theatre?
Are there any single screen theatres left in Johnstown? Read there were several theatres on Main Street in the past?
The Harper Theatre had a rich history in Detroit and as a true theatre enthusiast I must say the owners have desecrated this once beautiful theatre.
A shame this is now a heavy metal rock club called Harpo’s.
What is the current status of this theatre? I was an acquaintance of Gary Kulas when he purchased it.
The building reads Main St. Theatre 1929.
What is at that address now?
Is it still twinned?
A great vintage b/w photo on this link. At least we have it.
Thanks ncmark for those updates. Do you know Charlie Clayton? He was involved early on with saving this theatre.
Music to my ears! Waited along time for this! May have to attend to see this theatre.
When will it reopen or has it opened?
Sorry to read it was demolished.
We shall all stay tuned. How did this beloved theatre end up with “severe financial problems”? Who was the CFO?
Glad to read it has been returned to a single screen auditorium. Eberson would be happy!
Is this theatre still standing? I hope it is and that it has reopened and is showing classic movies.
