I also remember the Alba Theater on Flushing Ave across from the White Tower resturant. I went to White Tower with my dad and watched the short order cook those tiny hamburgers with little chopped onions and pickle, not to be confused by White Castle (UH) horrible burgers. dear Lost Memory, that’s right I used to go to the Jewish Deli on Roebeling between Division Ave and South 9th Street.My dentist Dr. Levine was on Roebeling and South 9th Street. I also went to Don’s Beauty Parlor right across the street from the 90th Police station house on Clymer Street. Don’s became Bella’s Beauty Salon in 1963 after don sold the place. By that time the Wilson was all closed and forgotten about except a few of us who only saw the old building which was not a movie any longer. Anniegirl.

This was the best moviehouse in the neighborhood. I went here as a kid in the 50’s. I seen many first run movies there. At some point it started running Spanish language movies for the spanish community. But there was a hotel and a ice cream soda fountain next to the hotel. The J and M lines ran overhead. Bway see the thread of Asbag dated Apr 10th. I went on that website and it is the same building that I am referring to and looking at the building to your right is the carriage store that my parents bought my bicycle. I lived on Penn Street and Bedford Ave a short trip 1 block to Lee Ave and left walk up to Roebeling Street. So that has to be the remains of the old Roebeling/ Wilson theater. Anniegirl.

trolley and BMT lines are different right. Trolley’s are Electric Buses. The only BMT line is the J and M trains that run along Broadway. The Wilson theater was on Roebling and Lee Avenue’s. When I was growing up in Williamsburgh in the 50’s , the movie was already closed and billboards were up all over the movie wall. Dear Warren, I went to the Republic therater on Keap Street and Grand Street when I was a kid in the 1950’s growing up in Williamsburgh Brooklyn. There was a Republic Bagel Place across the street from the movie. After the movie on a Saturday afternoon we would buy bagels to bring home. They boiled them right in fromt of you. It was great going to the R&F as we called it. We saw many first run movies there. Let me know where I can get a picture of the old place outside marquee. I remember going shopping on Graham Ave with my mom, Aunt and Uncle and there was a Jewish Deli on the East Side of Graham Ave where we had lunch and a Busch’s Jewelry Store across the street. The Graham Theater had it’s Name in Green Lights right? That’s what I remember about the Graham Theater. I never went to the Theater but oh I remember it clearly by the Green Light marquee sign. I remember going to the Theater before it was abandonded. I hung out in Greenpoint in the 60’s but I also went to the Meserole Theater down the block. I remember a clothing shop next to the RKO Greenpoint Theater and a Loft’s candy shop on the corner of Manhattan ave and Noble Street. My polish girlfriend Paulette lived on Noble Street. I went to the State Theater with my parents after having Pizza at Friel’s Resturant located on Myrtle Ave and Skillman Street. Sometimes we would go to Minnie’s resturant across the street. I remember the Red Oriental Rug that went from the restrooms down to the beautiful staircase to the first floor. then after the movie before boarding the Loimer Street bus # 48 back to Williamsburgh, my dad would stop at the record store and buy me a 45 rpm record of either Elvis or Chuck Berry. Hey Joe I remember the Ice Man on a horse Drawn cart. I lived on PENN STREET BETWEEN BEDFORD AND WYTHE AVE. I ALSO REMEMBER THE KNIFE SHRPING MAN WHO CAME AROUND AND SHARPNED KNIVES AND SCISSORS FOR MY MOM. GOOD HUMOR WAS OK BUT BUNGALOW BAR WAS THE BEST. What was that building that was on Broadway and Bedford Ave where the crosstown bus turned left off of Broadway and made it’s stop at the corner. Was that a Insurance Company. right before the underpass of the Williamsburgh Bridge going towards Greenpoint. The building had dark blinds. As a Kid it was scary. There was a luncheonette/diner type place directly across the street. Anniegirl.

yes warren I remember the dixie cups. and do you remember bungalow bar ice cream cups with the label showing the people walking to the bungalow bar truck to buy ice cream. The label was a light blue with the people drawn in like cartoon. and Warren the R&F was only a slang term used to us Williamsburghites to Short term the Republic Theater. Dear cypress, It is the R&F.or as it was known to non-williamsburghites as the Republic and yes there is a gas station there now. When the R&F closed it became a Shell Station. I went to that movie all the time besides the Commodore. I lived in Williamsburgh all of my childhood life.Anniegirl louieb’s wife.
