Perhaps the the 1911 opening of the Gem was a reopening, or this item from the January 22, 1910 issue of Moving Picture World might have been about a different Gem Theatre: “Green Bay, Wis.— The Gem is the name of the latest moving picture theater opened here under the proprietorship of H. U. Cole.”

Found this reference in a trade magazine called Motography, November 1911, Volume 5 Issue 6, page 249, via Google Books.

“The Gem theater has been opened at the corner of Broadway and Walnut Streets, Green Bay, under the management of Anton Nelson. It is conducted by the Gem Theater company and it is the intention of the parties interested to secure six other houses in Wisconsin cities to join an organization controlled by them.”

Motography was published monthly by Electricity Magazine Corporation out of the Manodnock Building in Chicago. (a landmark building in Chicago which is still standing today)

“Exploiting Motion Pictures For Entertainment, Education, Science and Advertising” was on the front cover.
