LARGE_screen_format has asked me to post the following, as he is unable to post on Cinema Treasures:

(“Comment appears to be SPAM!” message on attempting to post.)

“It turns out this cinema does NOT have IMAX with Laser GT projection as previously thought as per this post by Cineworld.”

A planning application for “non-material amendments” to the original application is available to view, with the the following documents showing the cinema’s floor plan:

  • 16/9/00013/MOD-PROP GROUND FLOOR PLAN
  • 16/9/00013/MOD-PROP FIRST FLOOR PLAN
  • 16/9/00013/MOD-PROP SECOND FLOOR PLAN

The largest auditorium shown is marked as “AUDITORIUM 11,” and measuring its size off these plans, its internal width is ~24m.

Auditorium depth between the demising wall behind the screen to the back wall is ~30m; if I’m not mistaken, the last row of seating is ~26m from the screen, and if so, the design esssentially confirms to the IMAX requirement of the last row not to be greater than the screen width away from the screen.

Behind this last row of seating is a “disabled viewing area.”

Confirmation from Cineworld on twitter that the IMAX screen measures 24m x 14m.

Perhaps this info can be included in the above overview?

Two of the photos seem to show 1.85 ratio screens necessitating Scope films to be shown letterboxed with no masking. This sadly seems to be standard practice nowadays with Cineworld’s new build cinemas.

Seeing films like this, one could argue makes the experience nothing more than watching a large TV set. In fact it is slightly worse as, assuming the projector is set ‘Flat’, just 1998 of the 2048 horizontal pixels are being projected, reducing the Scope ratio from 2.39 to 2.32.

I visited on Sunday 24th June 2018 to see “Deadpool 2”, starring Ryan Reynolds. This is the usual high quality, very colourful and inviting Cineworld. Beyond the ticket-checker is a large, very comfortable lounge, perfect to relax in before heading into the screening.

The very generous seating capacities are: IMAX:428; Screen 1:158; 2:157; 3:264; 4:195, 5:55; 6:63; 7:55; 8:62; 9:212 and 10:311.
