Capital City Cinema

The Capital City Cinema opened March 7, 1973. It was located in a small shopping center just north of East Lake Shore on 31st Street (now named South Dirkson Parkway). The Capital City Cinema closed in 1995.

The address is actually Dirksen Parkway, named in honor of the late Senator from Illinois. There is a hotel at that address now, but the former theater building may be on another part of the property:

I believe the correct spelling of this theater is Capital City, not Capitol City.

If someone tries to search for it with its correct spelling, they will be misled into thinking no page for it exists. On the other hand, if one does a “Springfield” search, they’ll find it but may never realize it is misspelled.

The location shown on the map is incorrect. This theater was in the Capital City Shopping Center, on the other side of Dirksen Parkway.
