News About This Theater
- Aug 3, 2009 — Mann Festival closes
The UA Theater Westwood opened on April 23, 1969, in a building that opened in 1929 as one of Westwood Village’s first six buildings, and had housed the first Ralph’s supermarket. Its understated exterior matches its simplistic, but comfortable auditorium.
Neither flashy nor opulent, this single screen theater has been a popular Westwood venue for years. On December 14, 1983 it was renamed UA Egyptian Theater Westwood. On June 15, 1988 it was renamed Cineplex Odeon Odeon Cinema Westwood. On June 4, 1993 it was renamed Mann Festival Theater, opening with Kevin Kline in “Dave”.
Smaller premieres were also held here and, occasionally, Hollywood luminaries were spotted at this quiet, out-of-the-way theater.
The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
Mann Festival Theater was closed on July 30, 2009.
