Bucks County Drive-In

The Bucks County Drive-In opened on July 21, 1954 with Robert Taylor in “Knights of the Round Table”. This drive-in closed on November 13, 1998 with John Travolta in “Grease” & Mike Myers in “Wayne’s World”. It has been demolished. A shopping center has replaced this former drive-in.

You can still see some of the car speaker polls in the grassy field there from Rt 611.

Google Earth still shows the Drive-In in 1992 imagery, but it’s one big graded lot in their 1998 imagery. The twin configuration was the lots side by side, the screens were in a side by side configuration, but angled slightly outward from each other. Concession looks to be between the 2 lots.

This Philly area Drive-in parked 750 cars and was owned by Claude Schlanger as mentioned above in 1956.

I’m thinking of bring back the Bucks County D-I for ONE night. I operate a compny the supplies inflatable movie screens. For one night ONLY on the Lowes parking lot (the spot the orig screen sat) putting up my screen w/ FM sound. What do you think? It would take some work and approal from Lowes (good luck with that) and the Twp.If you are interested in helping contact me:
Can this work, only with help. Can not do it alone. Ray

I worked at the Drive in from about 85 to 88. Fun times, worked with some great people. Lots of fond memories. I was really mad when they closed it down. I didn’t shop at stores there for a long time. I wish there was another drive-in in the area, it would be nice to be able to take my kids, like my parents did with me.

Some day I want to build the STARR*VUE drive-In near the Delaware River, in South Jersey, as a tribute the Sally Starr (she’s 88). We’ve already been talking to realtors. Land is a little cheaper right now, but financing is practically non-existent!

An Associated Press story datelined Doylestown, Pa., Feb. 26, 1956, said that the Bucks County screen toppled “last night” during a storm. What made it wire-worthy: The (canceled) movie that night was The Rains of Ranchipur. “Theater Manager Edward Holkey estimated damage at $12,000.”
