See the UPTOWN, Chicago, on Monday, April 4

CHICAGO, IL — This month’s Friends of the Uptown social, Monday, April 4, will feature an illustrated tour of the Uptown Theatre building through the use of color and black & white slides. The historic landmark will be shown in its exquisite 1925 beginnings, in rare color views from the 1960s and in more contemporary surveys.

If you have ever been curious what is behind those attractive plywood board-up panels that are spray-paint stenciled “HISTORIC UPTOWN THEATRE — POST NO BILLS,” then this is the night for you.

Friends of the Uptown volunteers are hosting brief, monthly socials to talk casually about the history of the UPTOWN THEATRE, Chicago, and other historic venues. The socials are no-frills get-togethers where the dress is casual and the talk is informal.

Come as you are at 6:30 p.m. promptly on the first Monday of each month to the first floor conference room of the Bridgeview Bank building, 4753 N. Broadway, in Uptown. Seating is limited and available only on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Snacks and drinks to share with friends would be appreciated (go ahead and bring them!). We also pitch in to help share the cost of the room rental and pizza.

Friends have scheduled April 4, and May 2 talks. Future dates may be planned contingent on time, interest and inclination. Any change to the first Monday schedule will be announced only via Uptown Adviser, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uptownadviser/

Please subscribe today if you are not already a member.

If you have stories, photographic prints or slides to share, please pitch your show in advance of your attendance via email to: .

The e-mail address got cut off at the end. Did the message exceed a length limit?

We appreciate the good turnout, the feedback and the support. Margaret Mead has prolly been quoted on this site before, but here goes: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.” Please bring your friends … see youse on May 2.
