Joy Houck’s Joy Theatre Circuit built the ninth location for his chain in downtown Rayville. The 450-seat Joy Theater opened likely on a 15-year leasing agreement. Business surpassed the size of the venue. Houck announced a Streamline Moderne style replacement for the Joy Theater. It was a post-War venue announced in 1948.

The New Joy Theater opened on November 23, 1949 with Anne Baxter in “You’re My Everything” supported by the MGM cartoon short, “Señor Droopy". This, original Joy Theater exited the night before on November 22, 1949 with Gloria Henry in “Triple Threat” supported by the short, “Let’s Talk Turkey", and an episode of the serial, “Lost City of the Jungle". The building was repurposed for other retail operations.
