The Rio Theatre opened January 15, 1936. According to the Mountain Sun, it was a joint venture between the Kerrville Amusement Co. and Hall Industries Theatres. In May 1938 Hall Industries assumed complete control of the theatre and closed it and by November the lease was terminated and the equipment removed.

The Rio Theatre, located in the still-standing Noll Building at the corner of Water Street and Washington Street, was later remodeled into shops

Film Daily Year Book 1937 gives the Rio Theatre 350 seats but after 1938 there were no more listing or stories in the Mountain Sun. Contrary to the Mountain Sun story that it closed in 1938, FDYB continued to list the Rio Theatre along with the Arcadia Theatre and Rialto Theatre into 1951.
