R143 commented about We're back online! (again) on Jun 14, 2007 at 2:25 pm

Okay, I did a little test, the address I used for this site was a hotmail email address. I figured, let me change that…so I changed it to my msn address….still nothing…no emails.
However, I just changed it to my gmail address, and now I did get a cinematreaures email!

So the problem is, and I don’t know if it’s because of cinematreasures or msn (MSN owns hotmail too), but there is something wrong since the changeover with the way the site communicates with hotmail and msn email addresses…. This happened once before, and it was also hotmail people effected.
That could also explain why Patrick may not have gotten my email (or if he sent one back, why I didn’t get it from him).

….So that may be what needs to be looked into, the site is not communicating with hotmail or msn for some reason…and I don’t know if that’s a MSN problem, or a cinematreasures server problem…but that’s where it lies…. Once I went to gmail, I did get one email so far….so it has to be because of the hotmail or msn addresses before. I guarantee the people with the problems are probably MSN or hotmail people too….

Thanks guys for your patience in my frustration. I would rather use my msn address, but if I must use the gmail address instead, it’s not the end of the world, it’s one step ahead of before I figured this much out….but I am sure if I as a hotmail and msn user was having a problem, I would assume other hotmail and msn users were…it may be because of the server change, but it’s worth looking into….

Speaking of the Madison closing – when did the Maspeth Theater close to movies?

The Oasis was not in Glendale, but in Ridgewood, the intro address is incorrect. It’s not anywhere near Glendale – Maspeth perhaps, but certainly not Glendale. It needs to be changed to Ridgewood.

But anyway – does anyone know of any interior photos online from when the Oasis was a roller rink?

Does anyone know of any interior photos of the Glenwood from either when it still showed movies or from when it was a bowling alley?

Does anyone know of any interior photos of the Keiths from when it was still a movie theater?

Does anyone know of any online photos of the interior of the Ridgewood from when it was still a single screen?

When was this building torn down, and does anyone know of any photos of it before it was torn down?

I agree. The interior photos are even better. Do you know if there are any available inside photos of the Bushwick Theater aside from the old one that has already been linked to here?
Also interiors of the Ridgewood (current or past), Glenwood, Colonial (current or past), or Monroe Theaters if Warren or anyone else knows of any. Also an exterior or the Monroe or Decatur would also be appreciated.
Heck, just keep all of them coming!

I remember going to this theater with family back in the 1980s. It was still in good shape back then yet. I really don’t remember the layout too well.
Hard to believe it’s gone.

Thank you very much for posting those photos. I really ought to take a ride out there one day. It’s been so many years since I have been right there.

Does anyone know of any photos of the Oasis posted online? I don’t mean current ones of the CVS, I mean historic ones, especially from when it was a roller rink, or just before, like the 60’s 70’s or 80’s?

Is there any current word on this theater? Someone mentioned above that it is now a 99 cents store. Or at least as of last Novemeber.

This is a true sad event. I passed by this theater about 5 or 6 years ago, although was never inside.
Very sad that such a gem is now gone. What is coming in its place?

Cathy, this is quite interesting. Thanks! The only thing is though that this is not the Star Theatre of this post. This Star theater was up on Lexington Ave way Uptown at 107th St, the one you mentioned was on 13th St, Downtown.
Is the Star Theatre you mentioned on this site? If it is not, and you know anything more about it, it should be added if you would like, or someone should add it.

I think this Astyanaax guy is the same guy that was dating Mae West in the balcomy of the Madison Theatre, there is a similar writing style.

Back to topic, to answer Tom’s question, it very well may be that the Ridgewood had better management in the 70’s, that made it survive over the more substantial Madison Theatre. Both were struggling in the 70s, so one had to go. The Ridgewood won that battle. Once the Madison was gone, the main competition was gone. If the Ridgewood had lost, the Madison may be the run down 5-Plex today, and the Ridgewood would be a department store. I also think that the location of the Ridgewood was and is a bit better than the location of the Madison. The Madison’s location on Myrtle was already sort of run down in the 70s.

Thank you very much Robert for answering my question.

As for B'way, I agree, Astyanaax is posting just to stir the pot. Obviously you saw the ridiculous post he made about Sears and Radio City Music Hall in the Loews Kings section: /theaters/1360/
It’s quite obvious that was just to try and get people to respond.

Does any of the orignal Madison Theater ornamentation still exist above the drop ceiling in the store? It’s such a travesty this theater interior was destroyed. The lobby was full of marble. The grand staircase was amazing.

R143 commented about Ridgewood Theatre on Nov 15, 2004 at 1:43 pm

Does the Ridgewood Theater still have some of it’s original walls showing? What I mean is, for example, the orchestra level is cut in half – does the outside wall still have the original ornamentation, and the new wall just plain painted sheetrock?
What about the ceiling in the balcony theaters? Are any of the old railings on the stairways still there?

R143 commented about Loew's Gates Theatre on Nov 15, 2004 at 1:41 pm

That is good news. The building is well maintained from what people have told us here, so this could mean that it is being maintained for the church, and could potentially one day become a theater again, if the neighborhood’s fortunes continue to reverse for the better. I wonder how the Housing Authority wound up with it, unless Loews just walked away from the building when the neighborhood went to hell in the 70’s.

Someone mentioned to me that this theater showed Spanish (Latin American) films in it’s final days. When did it close for good? Was it a theater right to the end, or was it converted to a store first?
