Donald E. Wernli built this theatre as well as the Silverton Motor Vu Drive In, and also purchased the Rio Theatre in Dallas, now the Fox Theatre. Originally the screen was square with a black border around it. Photo will be posted on website at www.dallasmotorvu.com When Cinemascope came, the screen was modifed to accept the new wide format. Each side was built out to accept the new format. The Drive In is currently being upgraded. The Snack Bar with have a 50’s car theme. The screen will be painted front and back, and many other updates throughout.

This theatre was originally the Rio Theatre. I don’t know why the name was changed. Possibly since there is another Rio Theatre in Sweethome, OR., or Fox sounds more like the Fox Theatre in Hollywood, so it sounds more authentic in the movie industry. But, these are just my guess.

The theatre reopened in Dec 2005. It is doing great and the town is supporting its comeback. They play the latest first run films and bring in the crowds. Great Job Rich Pitts! Every small downtown needs a movie theatre.

I recently purchased the Fox Theatre and Motor Vu Drive In. We are currently refurbishing the theatre with sound and video upgrades, snack bar upgrades, lobby, outside lighting and painting as well as fixing all seats that need attention and installing cupholders on all. The drive in will be refurbished before we open in Spring 2008. We plan on painting front/back of screen, refurbishing box office, and turning the snack bar into a 50’s car hop / movie theme. Then there’s the landscaping and playground. etc etc. We also changed the website to www.dallasfox.net and www.dallasmotorvu.com

The Pix Theatre re-opened on Jan 6th, 2006. It is a single screen playing first-runs when it can due to a Regal 7-screen on the other side of town. It is located in the historic downtown area of Albany to help revitalize the downtown. Each weekend attendance continously ramps up. The Pix is very Family Friendly in both prices and movies/events. They play a kids Matinee when allowed to share the screen. Website had a lot of info.
