Correction: Bev Roe, not “Sharon” as seen in my previous post! Sorry Bev! Other late 70’s Princeton Cinemas names I wanted to mention are Rick Spangler, Debbie Terri, Lynn (?) Schube, and of course the ever-notorius Monica Lang. We dated briefly, she ditched me, I was heartbroken, but I can STILL remember her telling me, “Mike, there’s ANOTHER red-haired girl here that really likes you.” In my sorry state, I heard but did not comprehend…a few weeks later, the night of the Xmas Party…the other red-haired girl, Linda McKinney made me forget ALL ABOUT Miss Lang!

edited version of this appears on the Princeton Cinemas page of this site Princeton Cinemas started as a one-screen…or one “house” as they called it. Then went to a two-screen in the mid 70’s. I worked at Princeton Cinemas from about 1975 to about 1979, with Craig Burk, Sharon Roe, Guy, Kim Hicks, Lauren Burk, Scott Levy, Don Fessenmeyer, Jennifer Lovett, others I can’t recall, and the all time love of my life, always will be, Linda McKinney. I’m Mike Warden. Tore a lot of tickets, kissed Linda as often as possible, sloshed a river of Glo-Coat onto its wood parquet floor, and said “Down the hall and to your right” a million times! Manager was Jim Cummings. Cummings was difficult to work with, and seemed perpetually annoyed, especially for such a young guy. Still, he was always direct with us about what he wanted and he always gave me a fair deal! Assistant manager was Wayne Grady, what a great guy! Easy to work for, but no pushover, we all gave him 100%. Grady had a HUGE Dodge Charger with a teeny-tiny 225 in it! I’ll never forget that! We always got Disney and Richard Pryor movies! When I started, Pryor’s Bingo Long movie was showing. The crew we had was very tight and we did a lot of things together. It was a GREAT job for a high school guy…especially since we got free movie passes. I remember seeing The Deep there, a few months before I started working there. Saw Jaws there, saw The Sting there; The Sting must’ve been there for over a year it seemed like. I was CRUSHED when I saw it had been demolished…used to go there once in awhile and dream. Princeton Cinemas is still gone…but lives on in my soul, along with my little red-haired popcorn girl.

There’s a beautiful theater in Bellevue, KY called the Marianne. It’s 5 minutes from downtown Cincinnati, OH, and it’s just down the street from the extremely successful Newport on the Levee entertainment complex. Not sure who owns it now, but it’s been closed for about 5 years. Bellevue is enjoying a renaissance right now and I think the Marianne might work for you.

Used to sneak into Jolly Roger…without a car! We’d have Dad drop us off at the nearby roller skating rink, then dash across I-75 and sneak through the woods and into the Drive-In. Then, we’d look for single young ladies with a car. When entering the NORMAL way, with a car, you’d drive through a little castle-style building where you would pay. That little castle survived the demolition of the Drive-In for a few years; it was easily visible from the highway. Then, it too disappeared, ending all traces of this delightfully themed theater. YARRRGH!!!

I saw Mad World at the Carousel in Cincinnati in the mid-60’s and have been a fan ever since! They had a nice big screen; this was just before they started splitting up screens. Judging by the above comments, the special 2-tape VHS version is superior to the DVD which contains less material than the VHS. However…when it comes to color quality and richness of picture…the copy I taped off 19 WXIX TV in the early 80’s is superior. I’m not criticizing the VHS special edition, but my taped off TV copy is richer-looking.

I’ve been watching “The Amazing Race” TV show once in awhile…the show definitely has some “Mad Mad Mad Mad World moments!!”
