I am having an exhibit to honor this ‘grand’ old lady of the art deco era June 30-August 6 in Westfield NY. Collecting and finding artifacts continues to be a ‘Labor of Love’. A reception will be held June 30 from 6-8 with light refreshments at the Lake Shore Center for the Arts.
What is the current status of this theatre in KY? Will it return as a theatre or has it been demolished? Need clarification. Thank you to whomever can provide current info. If it closed in 1979, what has occurred in that space since then.
Winnetka is the childhood home of Hollywood actor, Rock Hudson. While there Rock was in theatre productions during his high school years. I am currently reading All That Heaven Allows A Biography of Rock Hudson by Mark Griffin.
babahauck, Are you the lady I communicated with several years ago? If so, I recall you meeting Cass Warner through me and showing her the Warner. Please contact me at
This theatre has recently undergone a restoration that includes expanding the back of the house though I don’t think it included its original organ or any organ. Can anyone tell us more?
This theatre for many years was a teen center though it is now being returned to the town as the theatre it once was. Just this past weekend local theatre did a stage production of Steel Magnolia.
The community tried to find a buyer to turn the art deco building into apartments in 2013 to no avail. There is another theatre in the town called the Latonia though I don’t know its current status. There was also a theatre by the name of the Lyric. Oil City was a thriving town though no more, it seems. And to think the Derrick was closed because a mall theatre opened with 5 screens. Sad.

The Oil City newspaper, the Derrick recently published a story about the Derrick Theatre which was an art deco theatre built in the 20s. I have reached out to the journalist who wrote the article. If I received it, I will share it here.
So nice to see this art deco survivor theatre posted again with a recent comment on June 10, 2021. I love the art deco wood doors and art deco marquee. Would love to see interior photos. Is there a website that would feature photos? The folks of Caro Michigan can be very proud that this cinema treasure still exists in their community. My hometown art deco theatre was demolished in the 80s so there isn’t a time I don’t go through that intersection that I don’t think about the Grand Theatre in Westfield, New York along the shores of Lake Erie and about 70 miles from Buffalo.
The Grand was my hometown theatre and I miss it. Wish I could post the exhibit poster for Remembering the Grand.
Does anyone recall the first names of the Blatt Brothers?
This theatre was demolished in April 1993.

And the photo is of the back of the house.
The big news is they now have an organ.

Wonderful to know! Keep us posted.
What is the update on this theatre?
Sorry to hear that is closed and up for sale.
A beautiful theatre that I hope to visit in 2022.

Was this opera house ever called the Butte Opera House?
And I wonder whatever happened to the Derrick’s Wurlitzer organ? If anyone knows, please elaborate.

Thanks Joe for this update. I have visited this theatre gem.
What is the current status of the Rogers? Hope it has sold and is being restored to its original configuration and design.
Love the art deco style doors.
