The marquee is announcing the theatre has been saved which is wonderful news. The productions here are wonderful, I go to see every show that plays here.
This was a beautiful modern Century’s house but I’m guessing it never lived up to it potential. It only played first run for a few years before becoming a bargain house.
This theatre had absolutely no competition after the Five Town closed. I never understood why RKO and then Cineplex used this as a move over and dumping house. In the olden days with huge booking Zones Lawrence would never play day and date with Fantasy or RVC Twin but that practice should have been dead in later years.
Can someone who works or has worked at AMC explain the thinking behind no titles on marquees or on the building? All the free advertising, I used to drive by and see something was playing and go see it. I just don’t get it. As a former theater manager the marquee was so important, we even used to cram the next attractions up there when we could.
I wonder now where premieres and screenings will be held? Other than HUGE spaces like Radio City or the Beacon there are no 1000-1500 seat auditoriums. The Broadway legit houses should make some money during their dark periods and make their theaters available. After all Gigi played roadshow at the Royale
Damn look at all those theatres

Curious what was the story of being 6 screens and then back to 5?
Wow looks like a Century’s house
Even at the end this was a really nice house that never seemed to thrive.
Beautiful
As tiny as the auditoriums were here they were always immaculate and well maintained.

I never knew Lawrence had 70mm
After the Demille it had a short run as a dollar house with a different name. It then became Embassy 2-3-4
Queens is the absolute WORST borough for preservation. The Trylon was almost 100% original and was purposely destroyed
Mr Dukes handwriting
Love to see interior photos
Is this on DVD?
Heartbreaking :(
Where have NY premieres been held since the Ziegfeld closed?

I’m surprised they did not try to buy space in the new mall going up here.
Boy had this place hung on a bit it could have been a top grosser again
Last of the Calderone movie houses
Pathetic

I love this type of art deco marquee
This name just sounds so moronic to me, just my opinion
