The owner of this theatre has had it since the early 60’s. It used to play second run double bills. In the late eightys he attempted to play porno by day and second run at night but never cleaned up the place or gave it a chance.
This was another UA blunder closing this theatre. The Whitestone Multi draws a totally different audience and this theatre could have survived showing upscale fare.
I loved this theatre I have lived a few blocks away from it all my life and was so saddened when they closed it. It always played better films like Woody Allens pics, La Cage Aux Folles ran six months here. It also opened Return of the Jedi when it was still single screen. Its all in the past now just like the concerts a few blocks away at The Forest Hills Tennis Stadium.
This was a very nice theatre but was not overly ornate. When Century first closed it they had announced quading it, but it never happened. The last thing I saw here was Eddie & The Cruisers.
This was once one of Long Islands premiere theatres. The independant owner after Century ran it as a discount house, and had announced plans to six-plex it. He died before it happened and the family rented it out as a store. Right now if you drive by the store removed its sign and the old marquee is totally visible.
Can I make a suggestion that would make the information more easy to find? In the NY listings many of the theatres are listed by their current use, like “Wiz Store” or “Brooklyn Tabernacle”. Having them all listed by original theatre name would be so much nicer.

When Loews got rid of the Parsons it was taken over by the owner of The Utopia & Center and was quaded.
It also went through a very short time as i Bollywood theatre at the very end.
I love going to The Manhasset and have never found it to be dirty. I have been seeing alot of improvements made since Clearview took over.
This theatre was opened in the early 60’s and was a D-150 theatre that played films like Sound of Music after the exclusive Manhattan runs.

Lets face it UA has closed many theatres after running them into the ground. The Bayside, Marlboro, Meadowbrook, Syosset the list goes on and on.
I have many memories of seeing grind double bills here that only played 42nd Street. I remember seeing Zombie Island Masacre with Torchlight one time.
This neighborhood has gone through such a resurgance it’s suprising the theatre could not have been upgraded and survived.

I rememer seeing “Hello Dolly” here with my parents. The place was packed and the 110 had an incredible huge scope screen.
