    Historic movie theater escapes the end of an era

    CASCADE, ID — The Roxy Theatre has been serving patrons for 73 years and they hope to be in business for many more. Faced with closure, they were lucky enough to find a new investor to help them make a digital conversion. Hopefully the community enthusiasm for their business will only grow so they can maintain it.

    Movie theater showings on demand gain ground

    There was a panel last week at the Consumer Electronics Show last week focusing on movie screenings on demand, focusing on two new companies, Tugg and Gathr. They’ve become more popular in the past year after successfully scheduling screenings across the country for art-house films by patron request.

    Cinema City to offer 4D cinema ads soon

    A few years ago the Israeli company Cinema City International signed a cooperation agreement with the South Korean firm CJ 4Dplex, a company that provides 4DXTM cinema systems for exhibition firms along with programming content from major Hollywood studios.

    This year, however, it seems the cooperation of both companies will start to bear fruit. Not only will Cinema City restore some of its most visited European auditoriums into the new technology, but from this process also advertisers may benefit.

    CineMode app makes it pay to be polite and stop texting

    Cinemark has launched an app that rewards you for being polite during a movie. If patrons open the app before the movie and stay in it throughout the feature, they receive coupons for future purchases.

    Eaton Twin Theatres prepare for digital transition

    CHARLOTTE, MI — The second-generation owners of the Eaton Twin Theatres are preparing to make the expensive transition to digital projection. They hope to purchase a digital projector for its main floor auditorium but cannot afford a second digital projector for the smaller upstairs auditorium in the former balcony.

    “5-D” theater coming to Schaumburg’s Woodfield Mall

    SCHAUMBURG, IL — What’s being billed as Chicago’s first 5-D Cinema is rolling out at the Woodfield Mall later this cinema. PIX 5D Cinema will present 12-15 minute movie shorts that hit all the senses.
